Dear students and parents,
Welcome back to school! It has be a delight to hear children playing, talking, learning and enjoying each other's company. The classes have settled quickly and are working together to re-establish their learning environments and relationships. Class focus is beginning with student wellbeing and connectivity in order to position children to share their understanding and then identify their learning for the remainder of the term. Our focus will be on reading and comprehension, writing about reading and foundational numeracy skills. While the temptation is to try and cover everything it is has been indentified that by the Department of Education and Minister that limiiting the the curriculum focus and focusing on wellbeing is the most appropriate pathway for primary students for Term 4.
The slight easing of restrictions are a glimmer of light on the horizon. I hope you have all fared well and that you have found things to be grateful for in this unusual experience we have found ourselves in. I have appreciated the time with my children, watching them spend more quality time together and finding the joy of once again having board games nights. Our latest crop of lambs spend the afternoons bouncing and leaping in games of chasey which bring a smile to anyone seeing them.
During week 4 we will hold Parent Teacher check-in. This 10 minute online interview will give you a chance to discuss your child's return to onsite learning and to share any successes and concerns.
Monday 26th of October is the School Advisory Committee Annual General Meeting. All parents are welcome to attend the AGM which will be held via Google Meet. If you would like to participate please email me on principal@cranbourneeast.catholic.edu.au and I will forward the link.
We are continuing to streamline our pick up practices and slowly are developing patterns with students which wll support a speedy departure. Thank you for your patience and good humour. It is lovely seeing so many friendly faces and waves.
One of our greatest challenges is that a vast majority of students in Grades Prep to 4 are not actually able to tell us their surname (family/last name). As a quick check ask them to tell you their surname. If your child is not yet able to recognise their name then it is worth spending some time reinforcing this knowledge.
We do ask that if you are collecting children from different families that an email is sent to teachers so they can be sure children are placed together for pick up.
A reminder that it is law that all people travelling in a car must be wearing an age appropriate restraint.
Please find attached details on how to book a Teacher Check In with your child's teacher on either Tuesday 27th Oct or Thursday 29th Oct.
Students returning to school anxiety free
“Going back to school after the enforced COVID-19 break is a source of mixed emotions for many children and young people. Some students, who revel in face-to-face interactions, just can’t wait to reconnect with friends and teachers. Others who have appreciated the break from constantly being emotionally switched on when at school may be reticent to return.
Regardless of how your child reacts there’s bound to be a level of anxiety attached to returning to school after such a long break. The following strategies sourced from my book, Anxious Kids, will help your child make a smooth transition back to school.”
