Dear Families,
Today Dr Michael Bach, the Opposition Education Minister visited St Thomas the Apostle accompanied by the Director of DOSCEL, Mr Paul Velten. Dr Bach is new to the education portfolio and asked to visit our school to get a better understanding of Catholic education, primary education in growth areas and to find out what are the key issues for education moving forward. Joining the tour was Ms Ann-Marie Hermans who is the upper house Member for South Eastern Metropolitan Region.
During the visit Mr Bach, Ms Hermans and Mr Velten were taken on a tour of the school led by three of our Year 6 Leaders Yuvreet, Marco and Alyssa. The student leaders were congratulated by our visitors for their articulate guiding and sharing of the St Thomas the Apostle way of schooling.
Both Dr Bach and Ms Hermans are passionate about education having been teachers before being elected to parliament. They enjoyed their time with the students and seeing classes in action.
We hope the opportunity helps extend the understanding of quality Catholic education and the opportunities we provide for the children entrusted to our parish school.
Our Year 6 students went on camp this week - you will learn more about the experiences they had from the Year 6 Newsletter team over the coming weeks. Needless to say there were many laughs, challenges to stretch confidence and chances to get to know each other better. My thanks to the students and staff for working together to have a great camp.
Reconciliation Update
Many thanks to the families who came this week to the Reconciliation Parent/Child Workshops. Father Denis was once again a hit with ‘George’s Story’. Father’s retelling of this story really does bring to life the essence of repairing a relationship – not just with God but with our friends and family too.
Students will continue to engage in the ‘share-sheets’ as a way of exploring the concepts at home. The next official part of the Reconciliation program will be the celebration of the sacrament. We expect at this stage that this will take place in the new church.
