The Year of Prayer
Welcome to the year of Prayer! At St Thomas the Apostle, we are focusing on prayer in 2022. One of our school pillars is Prayer because it is the foundation of our relationship with God. But why is it so important to pray?
Look at it this way… how do you stay friends with someone you care about? You talk! How would you be able to maintain any relationship if you didn’t talk? It would be impossible – a one sided relationship just doesn’t work. You wouldn’t know how each other is feeling or thinking. The same can be said about talking with God. He listens to us and we listen to Him. Praying allows us to do the talking and do the listening.
Ask your, child how do you pray at school? It would be interesting to see how they are grasping the concept of prayer and it would be enriching to share your thoughts on prayer too. When do you pray? How do you pray? These are very good questions to explore at home as well as at school.
Sacraments in 2022
The sacramental program for 2022 always starts very early in the year. Remember that if you wanted your child to celebrate a sacrament this year, you were asked to complete a form at the end of last year. The Parish use this information to communicate with these families.
We enter the period of time that we prepare our year 3 students who wish to celebrate their First Reconciliation. Here are the key dates for these families…
- Information Night (first offering) 8th February 7pm (online)
- Information Night (second offering) 15th February 7pm (online)
- Parent/Child Workshop (first offering) 8th March
- Parent/Child Workshop (second offering) 9th March
- First Reconciliation 29th March 5pm or 7pm
- First Reconciliation 30th March 5pm or 7pm
The parish have already communicated with the families who have indicated they wish to undertake this program, but if you are new to the parish, you can still enrol and jump on board. The key is to communicate with Andrew McDermott (Religious Education Leader) or the parish to ensure you do not miss out.
First Communion and Confirmation sacrament dates have all been set too. If you completed the expression of interest form late last year, the parish has your details and will communicate with you regarding these programs. If you didn’t manage to complete the form, and you wish to celebrate these sacraments later this year, please let us know. Confirmation is celebrated on 20th August and First Holy Communion is celebrated on 10/11th and 17/18th September. Preparation happens well before each of these special dates.
